Suzuka Forest Garden


Suzuka Forest Garden features a collection of precious weeping Japanese plum trees. Many of them are Kureha Shidare and some are classified in the largest class in Japan. This is a research and cultivation farm that enables the Japanese traditional cultivation skills to be handed on to future generations. The garden is open to the public only while the plum trees are blooming in the early spring. In the night time illumination period, you can enjoy a spectacular view of about 200 magnificent plum trees in bloom lit up beautifully.

  • The best time to see weeping plum (Kureha Shidare) is expected to begin from early to mid-March each year. You can check the flowering status on our Instagram and X(Twitter).
  • Shuttle buses provided by Mie Kotsu will operate between JR/Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station and our garden from February 21 to March 15. Further details will be announced once confirmed.

Weeping Plum Festival

From Saturday, 21 February until late March, 2026


  • Depending on the blossoming condition or social situation, the garden may be closed even in the period. Please check before coming.
  • Best Viewing Period: Around early March. However, the blooming season may vary by approximately two weeks depending on year. We recommend checking our official social media before your visit.(For reference: Past blooming period)

  • The illumination period is determined based on blooming conditions. (Illumination may not be held before blooming begins or when the flowers are past their peak.)
  • Last admission is 30 minutes before closing.

Parking for approximately 200 standard passenger cars (free of charge)

  • During the opening period, surrounding roads may become congested.
  • From the group and temporary bus drop-off/pick-up area to the garden entrance is approximately a 5-minute walk.
Restrooms Temporary restrooms are available both inside and outside the garden.

  • Assistance from a companion is required as the garden paths are covered with gravel, and some areas have slopes.
Requests to Visitors

  • Food, drink, plants and pets are not allowed to be brought into the garden. You can purchase some food in the garden.
  • Please refrain from collecting vegetation in the garden.
  • No smoking allowed outside of designated smoking area.
  • Camera tripods may not be allowed in some locations in the garden or on certain dates or times.
  • In-advance application is needed for taking photos or videos within the garden for business or money-making purposes.
  • Bicycles, skateboards, kickboards, etc. are not allowed in the garden.
  • Flying a drone is not allowed over the garden and the parking area.
  • There are no lockers inside and outside the garden.

  • If you are not feeling well (coughing or having a fever), please refrain from entering the garden.
  • To reduce congestion in the garden, we may limit the number of visitors.
  • Our measures against infectious diseases will be changed or added as appropriate depending on the situation.

Getting to Suzuka Forest Garden

Suzuka Forest Garden is located away from major railway stations. If you are traveling by train, we recommend using a shuttle bus (operating on selected dates from JR and Kintetsu Yokkaichi Stations), a taxi, or a rental car.

If you are traveling by car, the garden is approximately a 5-minute drive from the nearest expressway interchanges.

 


By Train & Taxi


Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station is the most centrally located and convenient of the three stations. Shuttle buses are available from JR and Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station on selected dates. (*JR Yokkaichi station and Kintetsu Yokkaichi station are 1km apart)

Please note that taxis are not stationed at the garden. If you plan to arrive by taxi, we recommend arranging your return taxi in advance.

Shuttle Bus


During certain dates within the garden’s opening period, temporary shuttle buses are operated by Mie Kotsu Co., Ltd. (departing from JR Yokkaichi Station via Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station).
The shuttle bus for 2026 will operate from Saturday, February 21 to Sunday, March 15.

Night time illumination is planned during the flowering season.

  • The start date of the nighttime illumination will be announced on our official website and social media channels once it has been determined.
  • The lights are turned on around 6:00 p.m. Please come wearing warm clothes as it gets very cold at night.
  • Even during the Weeping Plum Festival season, nighttime illumination will not be held before the plum trees begin to bloom.

Spectacular View

  • Miharashidai (Lookout Point)

    The best spot to view the entire garden and the Suzuka mountain range that forms the perfect background including Mt. Shaka on a clear day.

  • Shidare Plum flaked in snow

    Only once in a few years do the blooming of the plum trees and a snowfall coincide. The rose-colored plum blossoms stand out over the silvery backdrop.

  • Japanese garden layout “Mitate”

    It incorporates techniques seen in Japanese gardens since ancient times, such as “Tsurushima (Crane Island)・Kamejima (Turtle Island)” and “Mt. Horai“ to express islands and mountains.

  • Tennoryu (Dragon of the Heavens) and Chinoryu (Dragon of the Earth)

    The Garden features Kureha Shidare most prominently with magnificent specimens such as Tennoryu and Chinoryu, which are estimated to be over 100 years old and considered as the most ancient type in Japan.

  • Garyubai

    It was named “Garyubai“ because it looks like a dragon crawling on the ground.

  • Genkai Tsutsuji

    It is one of the earliest varieties of rhododendrons and blooms at the same time as weeping plums. White and dark pink flowers make the Garden even more gorgeous.

Representative Varieties

Suzuka Forest Garden cultivates approximately 30 varieties of plum trees, including weeping plums and upright-growing plums.


  • Kureha Shidare

    Typically blooming from the middle of February until early March, Kureha features medium-sized pink blossoms around 2.5 cm with multilayered petals. At full bloom the flower edges turn white.

  • Shirataki Shidare

    This early blooming plum features a flourish of multilayered petals that can be enjoyed longer. The flowers gradually transform from a reddish color into a whitish flower as blooms progress.

  • Naniwa Shidare

    The flowers are bright in color and stand out well. It is characterized by a slightly purplish red color. This is the last weeping plum tree that blooms in the garden.

  • Fujibotan Shidare

    Typically blooming longer, this is a popular variety to be grown at home in containers. Fujibotan features medium-sized pink blossoms with multilayered petals. Before blooming the buds are a purplish color.

  • Kagoshima Beni

    This flower features medium-sized deep red blossoms around 2.5cm. The petals are flat and the plentiful stamen are also the same deep red color. This is a very popular representative of the red plum.

  • Omoi-no-Mama

    Typically blooming later, from the end of February until mid March.They bloom in an amazing variety of colors, including pink, red and white on every single tree.It is a popular variety in the garden.
